About the project

I have worked on the game CoRo (or on its full name: Cope with the Rope) at end of my second study year. Since we had the freedom, to create our own project groups, we formed a small, unofficial studio as Tagalong entertainment. During this project, we have received a proper guidance from experienced professionals. This was my biggest scale project so far, and our team had work on it for half a year.

The game

CoRo is a local coop-game, intended for play by friends and family members. The game offers a complex and challenging environment. The players have to navigate in this, while also dealing with the restrictions imposed upon them by the core mechanics of the game. One of these unique restriction was tying the players together. While limiting, it also made the rope between them serve as a functional tool which they can utilize to solve the puzzles of the world around them. This not only forced the two players to work together and prevented one from doing all the work, but also unlocked new possibilities to design new mechanics.

The main idea of the game could be found in games published after this project have ended (2018 spring). This was on the one hand a pleasant surprise for us, on the other hand we were a bit disappointed seeing the idea being already used.

The design of the game

I have worked as designer on this project. My main focus was on designing the mechanics, the user interface, and the level. This fields in an ideal case addressed by a different designer or designer group each, therefore it was a challenge to work on these simultaneously but also allowed me to improve my skills and knowledge immensely. This project was also a case study for me to apply knowledge related to business and management as we had to propose our plan for creating and publishing the game as if we would have been a small indie studio.
