Global Game Jam is an annual event. It is a great opportunity for people in the game industry to come together and display their skills. For me, it was a goal since three years to be able to attend and finally in 2020 it was possible for me to do so. I participated as a member of team GLAZE. It was a team that was put together from single applicants. Most of them, like me, were young and attended to the Global Game Jam for the first time.
As a team, we have worked on a simple high-score game. In this isometric view game, players took control of an anthill, which they had to defend against wasps.
The goal of the attacking wasps is to steal the ant workers, who are maintaining the trenches, and escape before caught (by clicking on them). If you defeat a wasp before it could reach the trenches you gain’ antcoins’. If you catch them after, they are going to drop the worker they stole and you can reassign these workers to their place in the defense. If they get away, you have to hire a new worker for the ‘antcoins’.
We implemented the mandatory aspect of the game jam: “repair” in the form of ants fixing the protective trenches around the hill. The game was nominated in the cathegory for children, so the artworks were friendly and the UI was designed with the least amount of text.
